CELTA Success

Lorna is a recent CELTA graduate and new employee of Lexis English Sunshine Coast. We asked her to tell us a little bit about her CELTA experience.

Lorna

So Lorna, why did you want to become an English language teacher?

I wanted to travel, see the world and be immersed in different cultures. I love meeting new people and this seemed like a way to be able to do all these things and get paid for it!

Why did you choose to do the Cambridge CELTA?

There are so many courses out there, it is hard to know which is the best one to do. I eventually chose CELTA as it is the most widely recognised and seemed to be the one employers were asking for, so I went for it. I also liked that it could be done face-to-face over 1 month.

What did you like about the course?

My trainers were excellent and inspired me to push myself further. I am now planning on doing the DELTA in the future. The students were also fantastic. I had the opportunity to teach asylum seekers and refugees and they were some of the greatest people I have ever met.

What advice would you give someone who was planning on doing CELTA?

Keep on top of your work. If you have a chance to study some grammar beforehand, do it! Stay enthusiastic and believe in yourself.

Where have you taught?

I have taught in England, Thailand and now Australia. In kindergartens, elementary schools and language schools.

What’s the best thing about learning English?

Meeting new people and seeing your students improve. I also love the challenges it brings and need to be able to think on your feet.

Thanks Lorna, I hope you enjoy your time at Lexis Sunshine Coast.
